The brief
3D Connections is a small business run by a husband and wife. They came to us at the start and needed the full set: a brand, a logo, a social media presence, and a website.
The owners named the business after their three sons, whose names all begin with the letter D. That gave the logo its starting point.
Fonts, then icon, then color
Our branding process for small businesses and nonprofits runs in three steps.
- Fonts. We start with a sheet or two of type options, chosen from what we heard on the first consultation call.
- Icon. Next comes the mark. For 3D Connections, the job was to turn “three D’s” into a symbol that looks professional and modern.
- Color. Color comes last, once the shape is settled.
Branding is rarely done in one pass. It moves forward and back as the client gives feedback. We adjust, try a new direction when one isn’t working, and keep going until the owners are happy with the result.
A landing page, not a big site
The owners didn’t need a large website. Most of their business comes from word of mouth and referrals. What they needed was a place where people who heard about them could look them up and get a clear picture of what they do.
We designed the page first in Adobe XD, using icons, vector artwork, and stock imagery to work out the layout. The site colors match the birthstones of the three sons: emerald, amethyst, and garnet.
Built in WordPress
Once the design was approved, we built it in WordPress. Designing first and building second keeps revisions simple, because layout questions get answered before anything is built.
The page was finished in a few days. The owners asked for a few updated images, we swapped them in, and the site went live.
Domains, hosting, and email
We also set up the domain, hosting, and business email, so the owners had one team handling the technical pieces from start to finish.
We set up the domain, hosting, and email as part of our hosting and care work.
